Local Airspace and HGAR Exam Study Course

Fly Yukon Paragliding in collaboration with Ryan Mannen at the Airport Control Tower are offering a one-day course covering Airspace Classification, Control Zones, and Tower Operations to promote safe flying and prepare participants to write the HGAR Exam with Transport Canada.
This course is appropriate for:
- Persons wanting to get into paragliding
- Existing paragliding pilots who want to write their HPAC or HGAR exams
- Drone pilots who want to know more about Airspace regulations
- Aircraft pilots who want to know more about paragliding
In the course we will look at local airspace and approach paths for the Whitehorse and Dawson airports and for floatplanes on Schwatka Lake. Concerns for some some local flying sites will be discussed and reviewed such as Mountainview, Grey Mountain, Haeckel Hill, Mount Sima, and Dawson City. We will review basic radio and communication protocols, and cover CARS (Canadian Air Regulations) sections 601 − Airspace Structure, Classification And Use; 602 − Operating And Flight Rules, 605 − Aircraft Requirements, as well as basic map reading and plotting. Airspace maps for Whitehorse and Ottawa area will be available as well as iPads loaded with ForeFlight Airspace maps. Pilots (including aircraft pilots) who already have their airspace rating are welcome to attend for $50 so long as you are willing to assist participants with map reading etc and participate in discussions.
